466 With the recent storm system bringing record cold and snow, many people are still focused on frozen or broken water pipes. It can still get worse! Now is the time to plan ahead. Believe me, you don’t want to play catch up when the water is rising.

One of the most memorable disaster responses I was involved with was not due to the record snowfall in the Pacific Northwest, but from the subsequent “Pineapple Express” front which brought rising temperatures, torrential rainfall all, and unprecedented flooding. Add in strong winds and saturated ground, and in no time it was a fine mess with predictable consequences and challenges.

us-snow-storm-updates.si I’m sure many will scoff. You’re probably still scraping the ice of the windshield, shoveling snow, and cursing the salt and chemicals everyone tracks inside the house. On the other hand, think of the impression you’ll make on your organization, supervisor, clients, media and constituents when you’re one step ahead of the next predictable disaster.

It is much easier and more efficient to adopt a mindset of “A Better Emergency” when you’re still dry.
