Overview: This course is an introduction to the types of hazards first responders may be exposed to in a terrorist or criminal attack, industrial accident, or natural event . Responders need to be ready to deal with any possible situation quickly, efficiently and professionally as their life or those close to them could be at risk. Knowledge of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, nuclear and Explosive weapons (CBRNE) is needed for every first responder in order to replace fear with respect.
This course is intended to provide an awareness-operations level delivery to the subject for first responders, including CERT members and community officials. The intention of the course is to give responders and those managing community emergency programs enough basic information to address life-safety issues for themselves and those for whom they are responsible. This material should also be suitable for use as talking points for public information officers and those training or educating volunteer organizations or the general public.
This information in this course is not sufficient to prepare responders to work in contaminated areas. Those workers require training at the Operations, Technician and higher levels. Many of these agents are only effective against those who are not prepared. With proper awareness and preparedness, we can save lives and reduce the impact of any release of CBRNE materials.
Duration: This course is eight hours in length.
Target audience: Private business, mass transit agencies, Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Service, Governmental Administrative, Hazardous Materials, Healthcare, Law Enforcement, Public Health, Public Safety, Public Works and CERT members.
