I am a paramedic on KY-1 Disaster Medical Assistance Team within the National Disaster Medical System of HHS. I am a staff nurse within the Cardiac Catheterization Recovery Unit of the Gill Heart & Vascular Institute at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. I am a PRN staff nurse in the Emergency Room of Georgetown (KY) Community Hospital. In addition, I have served as a legal expert in cases involving Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics.

Within the community, I am a member of the Lexington-Fayette County Medical Reserve Corps and the Region 15 Healthcare Coalition within the Commonwealth of Kentucky. I was a field tester for the National Healthcare Disaster certification, debuted by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in 2017. I have also evaluated a full-scale Ebola transport exercise for the Kentucky Department of Public Health.

I authored an article for the Journal of Legal Nurse Consultants that was published in the December 2017 issue, which introduced the Emergency Medical Services world to the legal nurse consultant community. I am the author and owner of a blog, www.crisisdiscussions.com, with the intention of bringing attention to healthcare disaster preparedness issues.

I am also on the steering committee for the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center’s Serious Communicable Disease Response Team. As such, I have received Emerging Infectious Disease Preparedness training through the National Ebola Training and Education Center (NETEC) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. My focus on the steering committee is establishing training goals for the team.

In the past, I have worked as a firefighter and have completed IS 100, IS 200, IS 700, IS 800, and the Professional Development Series through the Emergency Management Institute of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. I am passionate about raising the level of disaster preparedness at the bedside of our healthcare facilities.
