Contact me at <a href=\"mailto:abetteremergency@gmail.com\">abetteremergency@gmail.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I thought readers may be interested in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nato.int\/docu\/cep\/cep-cbrn-response-e.pdf\">Guidelines for First Response to a CBRN Incident<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We are closing in on a decade since Hurricane Katrina hit the U.S. coastline. \u00a0While the impact was widespread, the damage to New Orleans is what made news. \u00a0 The rebuilding effort there <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/cities\/2014\/jan\/27\/new-orleans-houses-rebuilt-trust-government-hurricane-katrina\">may take another decade in some areas<\/a> &#8212; that number really stuck out for me. \u00a0Realistically, how many neighborhoods can stay whole after a 20 year vacancy?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not surprising that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/afp\/article\/ALeqM5hedB5PU1-AYgCy_HFPLAs0aMJbSg?docId=526dea4c-604d-4735-9087-528a78fec16f\">1 in 4 Japan tsunami children needs psychiatric care<\/a>, though I wonder what could have mitigated the emotional trauma. \u00a0 Using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latinpost.com\/articles\/6442\/20140127\/fukushima-radiation-disaster-news-japan-uses-drone-check-rad-levels.htm\">drones to monitor radiation levels around the Fukushima Nuclear Site<\/a> is a good use of the technology.<\/p>\n<p>I always get nervous when I read about scientists unlocking the mysteries of pandemic organisms and now they have <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/hamilton\/news\/black-death-mysteries-unlocked-by-mcmaster-scientists-1.2512930\">new information on the Black Death<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We won&#8217;t see the benefit of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitaljournal.com\/pr\/1706410\">San Francisco General Hospital\u2019s new earthquake-resistant addition<\/a> until the &#8220;big one&#8221; in California. I think the administration of the hospital should receive recognition for taking such a proactive step.<\/p>\n<p>I had a great time visiting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/travel\/feature\/20131206-how-well-do-you-know-the-world-play-geoguessr-to-find-out\">Geoguessr<\/a> to see how well I knew the world. \u00a0I scored 6,800 for the record, setting the bar pretty low.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A weekly round-up of news, articles and surveys to make your next emergency better.
