{"id":2707,"date":"2016-08-08T14:23:25","date_gmt":"2016-08-08T14:23:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.abetteremergency.com\/blog\/?p=2707"},"modified":"2017-01-09T16:27:54","modified_gmt":"2017-01-09T16:27:54","slug":"how-many-people-will-learn-to-scuba-dive-after-a-cascadia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abetteremergency.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/how-many-people-will-learn-to-scuba-dive-after-a-cascadia\/","title":{"rendered":"How many people will learn to Scuba dive after a Cascadia?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I participated in the Cascadia Rising 2016 exercise to help add realism and stress.\u00a0 Not everyone appreciated the challenges and annoyances I caused but there was a method to the madness.\u00a0 My perception of what the west coast will look like after the next Cascadia event is formed through a collection of experiences.\u00a0 Growing up along the Oregon coast I remember the 1964 tsunami, a very small ocean run-up compared to what a near-shore Cascadia event will do. \u00a0Over thirty years later I would become an Emergency Manager on the coast, responsible for the initial planning for a Cascadia event.<a href=\"http:\/\/abetteremergency.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cannon-Beach-after-1964-Alaska-Tsunami.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3814\" src=\"http:\/\/abetteremergency.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cannon-Beach-after-1964-Alaska-Tsunami-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abetteremergency.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cannon-Beach-after-1964-Alaska-Tsunami-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/abetteremergency.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cannon-Beach-after-1964-Alaska-Tsunami-768x574.jpg 768w, https:\/\/abetteremergency.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cannon-Beach-after-1964-Alaska-Tsunami-1024x766.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/abetteremergency.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/Cannon-Beach-after-1964-Alaska-Tsunami.jpg 1801w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Due to the sheer magnitude of a Cascadia event, we can\u2019t expect to save everyone.
