They instead deferred to local authorities to make the determinations. My post <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abetteremergency.com\/blog\/2015\/07\/leave-or-stay-when-should-we-really-evacuate-and-why\/\">Leave or Stay: When Should We Really Evacuate and Why?<\/a>\u00a0might be a good read.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of people have moved out of the coastal areas and numerous shelters have been opened. \u00a0My post <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abetteremergency.com\/blog\/2015\/03\/could-current-shelter-requirements-keep-people-out-in-the-cold\/\">Could Current Shelter Requirements Keep People Out in the Cold<\/a> is timely at this moment too.<\/p>\n<p>My post <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abetteremergency.com\/blog\/2014\/06\/are-hericanes-more-deadly-than-himicanes-its-time-to-improve-naming-conventions\/\">Are Hericanes More Deadly Than Himicanes? It&#8217;s time to improve naming conventions <\/a>looked at perceptions people might have based on the gender of the storm. I wonder if Matthew was chosen on purpose or just luck of the draw?<\/p>\n<p>I took a good look at problems we&#8217;ve had with other high profile hurricanes in my post <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abetteremergency.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/do-we-lack-the-will-to-prepare\/\">Do We Lack the Will to Prepare<\/a>? I&#8217;m really hoping we don&#8217;t see repeat problems.<\/p>\n<p>How quickly we bounce back will be interesting to watch.
