{"id":336,"date":"2012-04-04T16:46:08","date_gmt":"2012-04-04T16:46:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.abetteremergency.com\/blog\/?p=336"},"modified":"2012-04-04T16:46:08","modified_gmt":"2012-04-04T16:46:08","slug":"what-is-the-tipping-point-of-united-states-national-strategic-interests-outweighing-the-interests-of-the-citizens-of-the-united-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abetteremergency.com\/blog\/2012\/04\/what-is-the-tipping-point-of-united-states-national-strategic-interests-outweighing-the-interests-of-the-citizens-of-the-united-states\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the tipping point of United States National strategic interests outweighing the interests of the citizens of the United States?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A re<a href=\"http:\/\/www.abetteremergency.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/mm3-10-s.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-339\" title=\"mm3-10-s\" src=\"http:\/\/www.abetteremergency.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/mm3-10-s.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"135\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>cent revision to an Executive Order titled <a title=\"National Defense Resources Preparedness\" href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/the-press-office\/2012\/03\/16\/executive-order-national-defense-resources-preparedness\">National Defense Resources Preparedness\u00a0 <\/a>got me to thinking at what point do the interests of the citizens really matter when it comes to the federal government.\u00a0 For example, it costs about $7 million for one Minuteman III missile.\u00a0 What impact on the lives of their citizens would $7 million have in the budget of any small city?\u00a0 You could purchase, stock and install 25-30 emergency shelters in flood, tsunami or tornado zones with $7 million dollars, but national strategic interests would not be met, just the interests of those citizens whose lives might be saved.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abetteremergency.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/gI_114107_STATShelterRenderSmallcopy.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-340\" title=\"gI_114107_STATShelterRenderSmallcopy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.abetteremergency.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/gI_114107_STATShelterRenderSmallcopy-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abetteremergency.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/us_nuke_minuteman3_01.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We spend over $8 billion annually on TSA and the money had to come from some budget, so which American citizens &#8220;interests&#8221; were deemed less important than those of the federal government?\u00a0 The DHS budget is $57 billion so obviously the interests of this federal agency outweigh those of ordinary citizens to the tune of a lot of money now not available to them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a hard argument to say these new federal agencies have benefited all American citizens commensurate with the cost, since their primary focus is on terrorism, a historically and statistically small problem for most Americans.\u00a0 Is a preemptive strike on Iran&#8217;s nuclear production capability serve our strategic interests to a greater extent than collateral damage we cause to Iranian citizens?
