This bill just passed the house, thoughts?
This bill would require the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to give greater consideration to the local effects of disasters when reviewing state or tribal requests for a major disaster declaration. It would also require FEMA to consider whether there have been multiple recent disasters in an area. Currently, FEMA considers the extent of both statewide and localized damage when deciding whether to recommend that the president issue such a declaration.
FEMA would be required to provide a report to relevant congressional committees within one year that details changes made to its regulations in response to this legislation, and the number of disaster declarations that have been declared based on the new criteria.

TSA is warning us in this article that 173 people have been killed over the last three years by people driving motor vehicles. Apparently they missed that about 3,000 people die every day around the globe from automobile crashes. We definitely need to spend more money for studies like this so we can all sleep better at night.

Our hospital is rather remote and geographically isolated by mountain passes and rivers. Recently we have been seeing flooding, mudslides, and road washouts all over the region. For a while every route out of our county was either blocked or facing the threat of closure. During that time the weather was bad enough that helicopters were unable to fly into our facility for patient transport. Fortunately a couple of routes remained open, and one has since been temporarily repaired, but it did make us question what we would do in the event of a critical patient and no means of transport. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Interesting storm brewing in southern Oregon regarding air and ground transport of MI patients in this article. I understand patient capture is important to hospitals. Adding or dropping services designed to keep operations running in the black. Who do you think should step in to settle this dispute or should it play out in the courts?
