With all the pontificating about having thwarted all kinds of terrors attacks in and past ten years at massive cost, why now the sudden disclosure of a credible threat?  Why not continue to investigate and disrupt the event like they apparently have been doing for years with such great secret success?  I for one am not too impressed due to the lack of data and substance to their track record claims, and don’t tell me that was due to operational security since it sure is not a factor now.

I know law enforcement at all levels of government is doing the very best they can, fusion centers are trying to connect the dots, and our military has done more to protect us here at home than I can ever thank them enough for.  But let’s not get too full of ourselves to be pragmatic.  I wrote a blog in May of this year that we knew when the next attack would occur, so why the flurry of public disclosure now?

I see a couple of possible reasons:

1.  They threat has always been high and officials are covering their bases by saying they now have credible information, so if something does happen, they appear to have done what they could by warning us TWO DAYS before?  The best time to disrupt an attack is during the planning and dry run stage, why did they not admit this upcoming date was a likely target and get a couple of million New Yorkers looking for these jokers for the last 4 months?

2.  The disruption to the normal (read non-politician) public during the upcoming September 11th Tenth Anniversary extravaganza will be epic.  By putting out a “credible threat” it will help make this disruption forgivable.

3.  Maybe they really did just figure out that this was an important date for al-Qaeda’ and are now trying to figure out how to first off keep the president safe at this event. If bridges and tunnels are a high threat target it means there will be traffic restrictions off the charts.

I just wonder when the American public will be considered full partners with the huge DHS bureaucracy in this “War on Terror” and not considered as potential leaks or threats ourselves.
